Urgency, pressure and guilt tactics in pet scams

Other pet scam South Africa (nationwide) Published 28 Jul 2026

What happened

A documented scam pattern that appears in almost every pet scam. Scammers manufacture urgency so you pay before you can do any checks: "last puppy available", "we're emigrating this week", "another family is waiting", or "the SPCA will collect him if the fee isn't paid today". The pressure and guilt are the scam. A real breeder will give you time to verify them, visit, and think it over. If you are being rushed to pay, slow down, because that alone is reason enough to walk away.
