Untraceable payment demands: EFT or e-wallet to a personal account

Other pet scam South Africa (nationwide) Published 28 Jul 2026

What happened

A documented scam pattern. Scammers insist on instant, hard-to-reverse payment, an EFT or e-wallet that must "reflect immediately", into a personal bank account rather than a registered business. Once the money is sent it cannot be recovered. Red flags: a personal account name that does not match the business, e-wallet or instant transfer only, and refusal of any pay-on-collection or escrow arrangement. Wherever possible, pay only when you collect the animal in person, and be very wary of any seller who will not allow it.
