Microchip registration "renewal" phishing scams

Other pet scam South Africa (nationwide) Published 28 Jul 2026

What happened

A documented scam pattern. You get an email or SMS saying your pet's microchip registration has "expired" and must be renewed via a link, which harvests your card details or a fee. Most microchip registrations do not expire this way. Never pay or enter card details through a link in an unexpected message. Log in to the real registry directly by typing its address yourself, and confirm your details there.
