Pet scams on Facebook Marketplace and Facebook groups
What happened
A documented pattern. Facebook Marketplace and buy-and-sell groups are full of pet scam adverts, often from freshly-made or hijacked profiles. Check the seller's profile age, history and mutual friends, be suspicious of brand-new accounts and comments disabled on the post, and never pay a deposit or courier fee for a pet you have not seen. Move the deal to an in-person meeting, not just a WhatsApp chat.
