Horse sale scams and the fake pre-purchase vetting
What happened
A documented scam pattern. Horses are big-ticket, so the losses are large. A sound, well-schooled horse is advertised at a tempting price and said to be some distance away. The "seller" pushes for a deposit to hold the horse or to pay for transport and a pre-purchase vet exam arranged by them. The horse, or the seller, does not exist. Never pay a deposit before you or a trusted horseperson has seen and ridden the horse, and always use your own independent vet for the pre-purchase exam, never one the seller arranges.
