Fake vet bills, health-clearance and insurance fee scams
What happened
A documented scam pattern. After you have paid for a pet, a "vet", "airline" or "courier" suddenly demands more money for vaccinations, a health certificate, pet insurance or emergency treatment, often framed as refundable or as the last step before delivery. It is the same escalation engine as the courier scam: manufactured, urgent fees for a pet that does not exist. No legitimate seller charges you surprise veterinary or insurance fees after the sale to "release" an animal. If you are hit with one, stop paying immediately and report it to the SA Fraud Prevention Service (083 123 7226) and SAPS.
