The "free to a good home, just pay shipping" scam
What happened
A documented scam pattern. An adorable pet is offered free or almost free "to a loving home", with a heart-tugging back-story: the owner is emigrating, bereaved, or moving somewhere pets are not allowed. You only have to cover "shipping". Once you agree, the same courier-fee machine starts: crate deposits, insurance, permits, all urgent and all refundable-on-delivery. Free pets from strangers who insist on shipping are a classic hook. A genuine rehoming happens in person and local, not by a courier you have never heard of.
